1966

We are starting with the year 1966 because it just so happened to be the year that I was given to start with.  Because this site is still under construction and the information that follows are examples of how this site will look, any ideas that you have will be appreciated.  Sean@vhhsfriends.com


January 18th, 1966

With the winds blowing fiercely through Sunland - Tujunga, the power in the whole area was knocked out.  In the evening, Albert Wagner of Sylmar was flying his small Cessna over Tujunga when the winds forced him down and where he crashed into a fence at Pinewood Elementary School.  He suffered a broken back and was taken to Pacoima Lutheran Hospital by Rescue 74.


January 21st, 1966

The Shawntays Girls Club sponsored an open dance at the 3 Oaks in Montrose.  A battle of the bands took place with the groups the "SUBTERRANEANS" of Sunland and the "INMATES" from Burbank.   There was a $!00 prize for the best band.  There was a donation of one dollar and that included Cokes and hamburgers.


February 3rd, 1966

Randy Bobb, Class of 1966 at VHHS, is awarded a football scholarship to Arizona State University.


March 10th, 1966

George Hees is carrier boy of the month for the Record Ledger.


April 7th, 1966

VHHS Track Team beats Eagle Rock..... Bill Grantham wins te 120 high hurdles with a time of 15.7 seconds.


April 7th, 1966

PFC Thomas Presby, USMC, Arrived in Okinawa for training.  He will then be awaiting transfer to Vietnam.


April 16th, 1966

Verdugo Hills High School teacher Donna L. Czeskleba was killed and another teacher, Shirley Bergin was critically injured in a traffic accident during the early morning hours.  The accident took place near Roscoe and Gloria in Van Nuys.  Eva Kirby, Principal at VHHS, says that school and students are stunned and saddened.


April 28th, 1966

The Verdugo Hills High School Gymnastics Team have evened up the league record against Marshall High School.  The score at this meet were 86 1/2 to 33 1/2 in favor of VHHS.  Gus Gunderson, Eddie Walls, Glen Gork & Rick Mashler were the point makers.
